Why Jim Booker has nominated for Town Ward Councillor


My 75 word answers to 3 questions:

1. Why have you nominated and what is your connection to the City of Mandurah?
I love Mandurah and have been passionately connected for over 60 years; as a child on annual family vacations; as an employee in local pharmacies and as a ratepayer and resident for over 20 years.
I’ve witnessed Mandurah’s growth from fishing village to today’s magnificent City.
I’m nominating to advocate on behalf of all fellow ratepayers. Mandurah ratepayers deserve qualified and experienced council representatives with the time and credentials to monitor and prioritise council spending.

2. What are some key issues facing the area that you want to address if elected?
To support existing agencies in combating crime, antisocial behaviour, drug issues and violence.
To encourage local business to sponsor student and youth work programmes.
To ensure street lighting and roadside gardens are maintained and upgraded.
To scrutinise the current Rates policy, emphasising prioritisation of essential, not ‘luxury’ council projects.
To improve and maintain Mandurah’s world-class waterways ensuring recreational access & environmental sustainability.
To develop solutions to homelessness focussing on housing availability and affordability.

3. Why should voters support you?
I’m a retired Pharmacist and business owner with time to do the job properly and I believe I’m professionally qualified to interpret and comment on most council matters.
I have post Graduate Diplomas in Education (Science/ Math); in Natural Resources (Aquaculture); in Mineral Economics (Finance); in Drafting (Civil/Structural Engineering); and as a Commercial Pilot.
My extensive experience includes work in UK, Europe, PNG and NZ in pharmacy, tourism, contracting and business management.

First Aid Demonstration for PMRA Residents

St John’s will be presenting a two hour First Aid Lecture on Thursday 24th October at Halls Head Parade Community & Sports Facility (Old Yacht Club) at 1 Halls Head Parade

from 1.00 - 4.00 pm. Cost $15.00.

The following subjects will be covered: 

Respiratory system, including asthma management

Conditions affecting consciousness
CPR demonstration

Heart conditions, including heart attacks


Shock/fainting management

Bleeding management

Snake bites

This course is designed as a demonstration for mature groups who would like an introduction or basic refresher on first aid knowledge and skills. This course is not assessed and no accreditation is given.

At the completion of the lecture, afternoon tea will be provided by the PMRA committee.

Barefoot Bowls at Halls Head Bowling Club


PMRA members and friends are invited to participate in a six week season of Barefoot Bowls at  Halls Head Bowling Club.

It will run each Friday evening from 18th Oct to 22nd Nov. Bowling commences at 6.00pm for approximately 1 hour, and then we'll adjourn to the bar/restaurant for refreshments, and meals if you wish.
Footwear is flat-soled soft shoes, thongs, socks or BARE FEET. No commitment is required regarding the number of nights you play.
It is proposed that teams are made up of bowling members and PMRA members and friends. People with little or no experience are encouraged to join in for fun and interaction. Bowls will be supplied by the Bowling Club.
The cost is $10.00 per person per evening to bowl, plus the cost of your refreshments
(at club prices).
Come along and enjoy the opportunity to play bowls and meet some new friends.

Hotham Valley Dining Carriage Excursion


Places are still available in the Hotham Valley Railway Restaurant Train on the evening of Friday 29th November for a rail trip and a sumptuous five course dinner.
A coach has been chartered and will pick up from Kings Carnival Car Park at 6.30pm.
The train departs from Dwellingup at 7.45pm and returns at 10.35pm. 
$100.00 per person including the train journey, meal and return coach (subsidised).
This event is for Port Mandurah residents only as there are just 46 seats available
(mostly tables of 4) and they are filling up quickly.
